Trying My Hand At Crochet

Lately, I've been giving crochet a try.
It's relaxing, I usually like to crochet in the evening while watching a movie.
I'm not one to sit and watch tv-I need to be doing something at the same time.

Now, I'm new at this, but I'll let you see a bit of what I've been doing.
So far I only know one stitch and I don't know how to follow a pattern.
Actually, I haven't looked at one yet, first I need to get the hang of this!
Then we'll see about patterns.

I love this grey chunky yarn.
A handmade flower pin is used to secure the scarf.

The red and cream scarves (below) are infinity scarves.
The black and white piece is short, more like a collar which can also be secured with a brooch.
(I'll show you when I figure that out.)
Not sure what I'm doing, but I love to experiment!

Practice, practice, practice.
Sometimes one end of the scarf is wider than the other
or
I lose a stitch or two
or
some stitches are big and some are small!

Do you crochet?
How long did it take you to get the hang of it?

Hope you're enjoying your weekend!

Hi Lynn,
Good for you! It does take some getting use to...I feel like I'm working backwards for some reason when I crochet. I'm just learning as well the girls and I went to a class on the Christmas break of course they have taken to it like ducks to water... But I do love the challenge, I like to do something in the evenings as well while hubby watches TV. I usually Knit though...
Good luck! What you have done so far looks fantastic!
All the Best,
Christine

Funny you should post on this. I have crocheted my first thing ever this past week. I am going to post on it this week.
Good for you for learning to crochet. I love the scarf that you've shown here, it's really pretty. What is the name of the stitch? Is it a double crochet, by any chance? I "think" that's what I did on my project.
We're not too old to learn new things, are we! Actually it was my 8 year old granddaughter who has taught herself and that has challenged me.
Have a great day!

Wow - looks like you are doing great! I really like the flower with the touch of bling you added to the scarf. My daughter crochets and has been busy during what little down time she has creating hats, scarves, ear warmers, etc..

Lynn,
I learned to crochet when I was very young, but have not gotten back to in a long time. The grey scarf is so pretty. I love the color, and all the jewelry adds a special touch. Keep going, my friend, you're doing a wonderful job.

Lynn, for not knowing what you are doing it looks amazing! Love the yarn and the bling is fab-u-lous! I tried crocheting when I was first married. I did it way too tight. Would like to try again. Thanks for sharing your new talent with SYC.
hugs,
Jann

It looks to me like you're doing pretty good with just the one stitch! I haven't crocheted in years! Wonder if it's like riding a bike in the sense that it will all come back once starting again? Love the gray with the broach look. Boy, at this rate you'll be crocheting like crazy and learning all kinds of stitches. I'm like you, I have to be doing something while watching TV.

I like to crochet too, and don't really follow patterns - I don't like having to count rows and things. Your scarf with the flower pin looks great!
